Fireworks Fantasia to launch torpedo-like firework

30 October 2006

Fireworks never seen before in New Zealand will be launched off New Brighton Pier into the water to surface and explode at Fireworks Fantasia on Sunday, 5 November, starting 9.30pm to mark Guy Fawkes.

The Christchurch City Council-funded public fireworks display will run about 10 minutes, synchronised to music from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean and heard live on The Breeze radio station.

Paul Collins of Fireworks International says the fireworks display will be larger than last year’s with the added advantage of new fireworks that will be launched sideways off the Pier into the sea to explode as they resurface – giving a dramatic water effect on the night.

A carnival and food vendors will be at New Brighton where carparking will be available for a gold coin donation at Rawhiti Domain. People can also catch buses for $2.50 each or $1.90 with a Metrocard one-way from any Christchurch main centre to New Brighton from 7pm and back again after the fireworks. Phone Metro Info 366-8855 or visit the www.metroinfo.org.nz website for details.

So get down there by bike or bus, or watch it unfold from the Port Hills or Sumner Beach with family and friends.
