Moorhouse Avenue – traffic delays expected.

26 October 2006

Urgent work is required to replace a section of sewer pipe located in Moorhouse Avenue at the intersection with Montreal Street.

The work is scheduled to start on Monday 30 October and will require the use of two of the east bound ‘straight through’ lanes along Moorhouse Ave as indicated on the sketch attached (note: the sketch is indicative and not to scale).

Where it is safe and practical, work on the intersection will be undertaken at both night and during the day. Once the intersection work is completed, work along Moorhouse Avenue will be undertaken during the day.

The work, being undertaken by March Construction Ltd, is expected to take between three and four weeks to complete.

“The Council and contractor will do what they can to reduce disruption.  However, due to the nature of the work some disruption is inevitable,” said Christchurch City Council’s capital programme coordinator, Mike Kininmonth.

“Motorists who use Moorhouse Avenue during peak hours are advised to use alternative routes if possible.

“Repair work was undertaken in this area a couple of months ago. However, the pipeline is more than 120 years old and although the repair is sound it has become apparent that replacement of a section of this pipeline is necessary,” said Mr Kininmonth.
