Second stage of Sumner stormwater pipeline to commence

10 October 2006

The second stage of the Sumner stormwater pipeline from Richmond Hill to the sea is expected to start tomorrow, Wednesday 11 October.

This phase, to be completed along Wakefield Avenue, will affect traffic flow to varying degrees as the works progress. Initially two lanes of traffic will be maintained, however in  a couple of weeks time this will be reduced to one lane with temporary traffic lights. The lights will be adjusted to favour traffic city-bound in the morning and those vehicles Sumner-bound in the evening.

Traffic will be affected for several weeks.

As well, Council has also begun work on another Sumner stormwater drainage project on Arnold Street from Clark to Whitfield streets. This project, unrelated to the other, will have minimal affect on traffic flows and will take about 10 weeks to complete.

Other than essential work relating to site safety, it is expected that no work will be carried out on Sundays or public holidays.
