US Sociologist and Designer Patricia Moore gives presentation to a full house
9 October 2006
It’s not about age, it’s about ability. This was one of US Sociologist and Designer Patricia Moore’s key messages last week in her presentation to a full house of 150 in the Council Chambers.
Speaking on universal design and the need to create environments, as well as products and services that suit the lifespan, she emphasised that successful universal design needs to focus on giving all people the opportunity and ability to participate, rather than identifying their age or disability as a barrier.
Patricia visited New Zealand as recipient of a New Zealand Institute of Research on Ageing Fellowship, sponsored by Southern Cross. The Council was delighted to host her presentation, particularly at this time when it is reviewing its Older Persons Policy.
