Science in the City presents – Towards Zero Waste

21 March 2006

Following the success of last year’s Science in the City lunchtime lecture series, it is on again for 2006.

The first on this year’s calendar, Towards Zero Waste, will be presented by Christchurch City Council Senior Planner Tony Moore on Wednesday 29 March at 1.10pm-1.50pm at Our City O-Tautahi.

Mr Moore will speak about the challenges that lie ahead on the road towards a waste free city.

"Although considerable efforts are being made to reduce waste, we live in a wasteful city during a wasteful time in history," Mr Moore said. "The fact that you live in Christchurch and enjoy the quality of life it offers, means that you personally contribute to the 263,000 tonne mountain of rubbish a year," he said.

Mr Moore’s lecture will also offer a background to waste issues, discuss some of the hard choices that need to be made and outline possible options for moving forward.

Science in the City, a free series of lunchtime lectures is presented by the Canterbury Branch of the Royal Society and the Christchurch City Council’s public exhibition space Our City O-Tautahi.
