Council, Red Cross want help to cheer snow-bound neighbours
22 June 2006
Christchurch City Council and Canterbury Red Cross are calling on Christchurch people to take part in their Ray of Sunshine collection to help out the hundreds of households in Mid and South Canterbury that have not had electricity for 11 days.
To take part, items suitable to be included in Ray of Sunshine packs should be dropped off at the Red Cross centre at 32 Birmingham Drive. Red Cross will be accepting donations from 8.30-5pm tomorrow (Friday) and on Saturday and Sunday.
Items suitable for the packs include homemade cards, baking, chocolate or anything small which might help brighten someone’s day.
The packs will be delivered to households which have had long periods without electricity. They will be taken to Waimate, Fairlie, Timaru, Geraldine and Ashburton, and will be sent on to rural households.
So, c’mon Christchurch, help brighten up someone’s day in the south.
