Submission period extended for New Brighton High-Rise Study
27 July 2006
The Council has extended the public submission period for the study into high-rise development in New Brighton to 25 August, due to high levels of interest from more than 600 people who attended two open days on the study early this month.
The public had been asked to comment on a study from 1 July to 4 August on different scenarios for high-rise development on Marine Parade in the area bound by Rawhiti Domain, south to Shackleton Street, and around the general New Brighton Mall business zone.
The study does not portray any particular options set in concrete, but are designed to gauge public opinion on high-density development scenarios and their likely effects.
People who attended the open days filled over 150 feedback forms on what they thought of the study, and 100 more submissions have been received by Council since.
Further technical reports – looking at everything from ground conditions to shading – are now available on the Have Your Say site through the www.ccc.govt.nz internet website, and hardcopies are available from the New Brighton library for public comment.
