Youth artists sought for Sister Cities Art Competition

15 February 2006

Following the success of last year’s Christchurch Sister Cities Young Artist Competition, International Christchurch Youth (ICY) has again organised the event for budding 13-18 year-old artists.

Entrants for this year’s competition, themed What Does Global Citizenship Look Like?, are currently being sought and need to register their interest by Friday, 3 March. Artworks must then be submitted by Friday, 17 March.

All entries to the competition will be exhibited at the ArtZone, Centre of Contemporary Art (COCA) from 29 March – 21 April and a winner announced.

The winner’s art work will then be couriered to Washington DC, USA, to compete in the  Sister Cities International Showcase of Young Artists 2006.

The winner of last year’s inaugural event was Melissa Gray, 17, of St Margaret’s College. Her work, Dreaming the Thoughts of Others, was so well received by Sister Cities International in Washington  it features on the front cover of their Sister Cities International Showcase of Young Artists 2006 competition brochure.

Full details of the competition are available on Christchurch’s Sister Cities website: http://www.christchurch.org.nz/SisterCities/News_and_Events/
