International golf free for Christchurch residents

13 February 2006

Next week’s 2006 ING NZ PGA Golf Championship at Clearwater Golf Club will be free for all residents of Christchurch to attend if they present their ‘Bonanza of Golf’ flyer sent out with their latest rates instalment.

The Championship, co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and the US Nationwide Tour, will again attract the cream of New Zealand and Australia's talent, as well as 78 high quality American professionals - including the winner of yesterday’s Johnnie Walker Classic in Australia, Kevin Stadler, son of golfing legend Craig Stadler.

As well as free entry for the whole household for the duration of the four-day-tournament (valued at $110), the pass enables free golf lessons at the venue for all ages and abilities at 10am, 12noon, 2pm and 4pm daily.

Anyone not in possession of a pass to the golf that would like one, can either pick one up from Council’s Civic Offices on Tuam Street, or phone 941 8999 and have one sent out to them.

One lucky Christchurch family on course for the final round (26 February), with their rates pass, will go home with a $10,000 golf/travel package courtesy of the Christchurch City Council and drawn by Mayor Garry Moore.

The Championship runs from 23-26 February.
