Relax with Saturday Sounds at Parklands Library and café
2 February 2006
Live music, great coffee and the latest magazines – the perfect way to relax and unwind on Saturdays at Parklands Library and cafe.
From this Saturday (February 4), Parklands Library and Ditto café host the summer season of Saturday Sounds, beginning with the smooth sounds of jazz, featuring Barock’s Judith, Tim and Michael Bell from 11am to noon.
Open for only five months, Parklands Library has quickly become established as a place for residents to relax and unwind, said Parklands Community Librarian Sally Thompson.
“Saturday Sounds builds on this reputation. After a long week, taking time out to for our busy lives is important for our well-being.
“At Parklands we have 113 of the latest magazine titles, which can read while at the library, an extensive selection of new paperbacks, and thousands of CDs and DVDs for visitors to browse through, select and take home for their next week’s viewing and listening pleasure.”
With the library’s in-house Ditto café and Saturday Sounds, she said Parklands Library was a tranquil place to sit with a great book, a cup of coffee and a muffin, or to meet friends in the courtyard for lunch, while being entertained by some of Christchurch’s talented musicians.
On February 11, Saturday Sounds has an Irish flavour, Sophia and Jeremy performing traditional and modern Irish tunes, while on February 18, up-and-coming singer/songwriter Bryony Matthews will perform.
Acoustic blues rhythms with Hugh Campbell and Jon Hooker entertains library visitors on February 25, the sexy rhythms of the Scarlet Senoritas…who smoulder by night on March 4, from 1pm to 2pm, and jazz/funk duo Lava on March 11.
