2006 Christchurch Civic Awards to be presented next Wednesday, 6 December
1 December 2006
Civic Awards will be presented to 30 community minded individuals and organisations by Christchurch Mayor Garry Moore next Wednesday, 6 December.
“These awards recognise people from a wide cross-section of the community, who are working to make our city a better place to live,” Christchurch City Council International Relations Coordinator, Dave Adamson says.
“This year’s recipients cover everything from those volunteers who look after the Police Kiosk in Cathedral Square, to those that give outstanding service to their local community. In other words, a typically mixed and varied range of activities, which typifies what the Christchurch Civic Awards are all about,” he says.
Civic Awards are presented annually by the Council in recognition of substantial, usually of a voluntary nature that benefits the city of Christchurch and its people. This service can be in a number of areas including recreation, youth activities, social welfare, educational services, cultural, religious and community affairs.
Nominations were called for in August and went through a judging process. Recommendations on the nominations were then made to a full Council meeting.
On Wednesday, Mr Moore will present each of the award recipients with a framed certificate and boxed medallion.
