Nominations now being taken for Christchurch’s Civic Awards
11 August 2006
Nominations are now being called for this year’s Christchurch Civic Awards.Mayor Garry Moore says the awards allow the city to say “thank you” to the many people whose efforts contribute to the life of the community.
“Every city depends on amazing individuals who excite us all to actually get involved in their particular issues. They are public entrepreneurs,” Mr Moore says.
“They give of themselves in a way that is often never thanked and the Civic Award is the highest award that we as a city, can give them. It’s a very special ceremony and their families and friends are all invited to one great night of celebration.”
Any individuals or organisations can be nominated for an award. Categories include recreation, youth activities, social welfare, educational services, cultural affairs, religious studies or any other substantial service, usually of a voluntary nature, that helps to further the vision of Christchurch outlined in the Council’s long-term community plan.
Successful nominees will receive a framed certificate and boxed medallion from the Mayor at a civic reception to be held later this year. Nominations close on Friday 8 September 2006.
● Nomination forms are available from Civic Offices, Council Service Centres and Christchurch City Libraries or by phoning 941 8775, for one to be posted.
