Gardens’ Curator receives two prestigious national awards

5 September 2005

Curator of the Botanic Gardens, David Given, has been awarded two prestigious national awards for his ongoing research into plant conservation.

Dr Given was presented the celebrated Te Tohu Taiao Award for Ecological Excellence 2005 late last week. The award, presented annually by the New Zealand Ecological Society, recognises a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the study and application of ecological science.

“To receive an award of this calibre is quite an honour. It makes you want to continue ploughing on with all the hard work that you have put into ecological conservation over the years,” Dr Given says.

Last month, Dr Given also received the New Zealand Plant Conservation Network’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding commitment to New Zealand indigenous plant conservation.
