New look and layout for Halswell Library

18 May 2005

Christchurch City Libraries’ Halswell Library - Te Kete Wānanga o Otamatua – is about to undergo a facelift to create a brighter, modern and more open space for its customers. The library will be closed for around three weeks from Tuesday 31 May while the work is undertaken, including a new colour scheme, new carpet throughout and an improved layout to help customers make the most of the building and its collections. Halswell’s Community Librarian, Pam Fisher, says staff are excited about the changes, and customers will be pleased with the new look. “The refurbished library will be a lighter, brighter place to visit, easier to find your way around, and with a greater sense of space in which to appreciate the library’s great collections of books, magazines, newspapers, CDs, CD-Roms and DVDs. There’ll be something for everyone.” The library will reopen on Wednesday 22 June, from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays. Customers can also enjoy Halswell’s free monthly book group, regular pre-school storytime and local ‘walk and talk’ group. Contact the library on 941 7944 for details of dates and times. The library also offers free and pay-as-you-go internet and email access, photocopying/printing facilities, and free parking. During the temporary closure, Halswell customers are able to use Spreydon Library or any of Christchurch City Libraries’ other sites across the city to browse and borrow items. Items can be also be reserved online at library.christchurch.org.nz or by phone on 03 941 7923, and collected from Spreydon.
