30th Anniversary tour to Christchurch, England
22 July 2005
To celebrate the sister city relationship of 30 years with Christchurch, the people of Christchurch, England, have invited our city’s residents to their ancient borough.
This invitation follows a visit in February this year, by a group from Christchurch and Dorset, England, who want to return the hospitality they received. Registrations of interest for the trip must be made to Barbara August, International Relations coordinator, phone 941 8251, before Saturday, 30 July, 2005.
Councillor David Cox, who is heading the 30th Anniversary Tour delegation on behalf of the Christchurch England Sister Cities Committee, from 3 September to 23 September, 2006, says he hopes many people will consider joining the guided tour, which will help strengthen ties between the two cities.
“You will be made very welcome as part of this group because it is an exchange of good will between cities, cultures, and of course people.
“I’d welcome a good mix of cultures, ages and experience because we have a lot to show off about in our city,” Cr Cox says.
It is expected to cost about $6500 (including taxes) a person, though that price may be reduced, if more people take part. The cost includes all travel by air and coach throughout southern counties of England near the beautiful Dorset coast and the New Forest, and parts of Northern France, where many of New Zealand’s fallen remain buried after two world wars.
