Council moves full steam ahead on Heathcote Valley Park

Work on the Council’s Woodhill site in Heathcote Valley Park will continue to schedule as final details of an agreement to develop a Maori Village on the land are resolved with Tamaki Christchurch Maori Village Ltd.
“We are progressing with remediation and contouring of the former landfill site, so that it will be safe and ready to be used in the future,” Heathcote Valley Park project manager Darren Moses said.
Work on Woodhill, near Ferrymead Heritage Park, is hoped to be finished by May next year, following the creation of two more large ponds in Heathcote Valley Park. “The soil that comes from digging out the ponds will be used to cover and contour the hill,” Mr Moses said.
Development of the waterways through Heathcote Valley is being funded through a drainage cost sharing scheme between the Council and local residents to assist drainage from hillside properties.
Additions to the Park this year have included senior, junior and intermediate playing fields, car parking areas and landscaping.
In the next year, a sports pavilion, another senior playing field and more car parks will be constructed. Earthworks will also continue in preparation for a nine hole golf course and driving range in the Park.
