Christchurch City Libraries/Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi wins inaugural Maori Language Week award

Christchurch City Libraries/Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi has won the local body section of the inaugural Māori Language Week awards and was runner-up in the supreme award.
Christchurch City Libraries/Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi has a strong commitment to Te Reo Māori. Recent initiatives have included developing appropriate bilingual signage in all our Libraries, outreach programmes and events held during Māori New Year (Matariki) and Māori Language Week.
The awards -- organised by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (the Māori Language Commission), Te Puni Kōkiri and the Human Rights Commission -- were created to celebrate and recognise efforts to promote Māori language. They were presented at a gala dinner in Wellington last night.
