Free community fiesta at Hoon Hay Park on Saturday, 20 November

16 November 2004

Hoon Hay Park on Mathers Road is the place to be on Saturday, 20 November, whether you are a local resident or visiting from other suburbs.

The Community Fiesta, from 11am to 3pm, is a free event aimed at families and young people. It is organised by the Christchurch City Council along with a variety of local organisation and with funding from the Council’s Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board.
There will be a variety of on-stage entertainment, including groups such as Chickenyard, Avia Tour, Blackmarket Art and Disarm, while local cultural groups will perform dances and songs.

Have a go at giant sumo wrestling and shoot some hoops with members of the Canterbury Rams basketball team. For younger children there will be workshops in kite making, soap carving and flax weaving, a bouncy castle, face painting and much more, all free.

Plan to stay for lunch as there will be plenty to choose from amongst the many food stalls. Take a break from the activity, sit back to enjoy lunch while watching the talented youth and special guests performing.

If wet, the event will be held on Saturday, 27 November.
