Christchurch City Council Summer Pools open on 13 November
4 November 2004
Summer is nearly here and it’s time to get out of the house and submerge yourself in one of the Christchurch City Council’s four Summer Pools.
From opening day -- Saturday, 13 November -- the Sockburn Pool, Waltham Lido Pool and Halswell Aquatic Centre will open daily from 11am and Jellie Park Aqualand opens from 6am.
With hydroslides, toddlers pools and BBQ areas to add to the fun, the Summer Pools provide a great swimming experience. The Council pools are good value too. Full-day entry prices start at $1.50 for the under-15s.
This season, a series of Summer Pool events have been planned to create a fun festive atmosphere over the school holidays. For some pre-Christmas fun, experience a pirate takeover at the Tip Top Pool Parties -- be entertained by Cap’n Algregoe and his Pirate Magic Show and be part of the Pirate Crew’s silliness and mad capering. Walk the plank, dive for treasure or meet Father Christmas and have your face painted. Fantastic giveaways and a giant lollie scramble are also part of the fun. You can catch the pirates at one of the pools over weekends 4-5 or 11-12 December from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
Next up is a series of Pacific Island Pool Parties. Relax poolside and let us entertain you with island rhythms from Jahmen, a popular Pacific Island band with an original blend of reggae, funk and rock. Maroon your family and soak up the Island atmosphere. Onsite will be Giant Board Games -- have a-go at Giant Snakes and Ladders, where you, in person, move up the ladders and down the snakes.
The Pacific Pool Parties are on from 13-16 January between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.
- To find out more about upcoming events, people can pick up a Summer Pool brochure at one of the City Council’s pools, libraries, service centres and other recreational outlets around the city.
