15 March 2004
Free Friday Lunchtime Concert, Friday March 19th, 12.15pm to 1.15pm, Cathedral Square.
Popular blues singer Izzy Miller Bell will perform blues standards and originals this Friday in Cathedral Square from 12.15pm as part of the Free Friday Lunchtime Concert Series, presented weekly by Christchurch City Council.
Izzy was born in the Scottish shipbuilding town of Greenock, where she was surrounded by music. In her late teens she settled in London, and developed her musical craft.
In the late seventies, she entered the world of the busker while travelling through Europe, Asia and onto Australia. She gave her first professional performance in 1983 at the prestigious Manly Summer festival in Sydney. In 1987 Izzy moved to New Zealand where she has performed as a solo artist and accompanied by colleague Jon Maxim Hooker on guitar. Together they are regarded as two of New Zealand’s finest exponents of acoustic and contemporary folk, blues and jazz.
Izzy Miller Bell has recently returned from a 10 month tour of Australia and Europe where she has been promoting her latest album Blues Angel, which has been described as ‘an album to relax to…to enjoy a glass of wine with…to just lose yourself in!’
