Garden Gala for Older Adults at Riccarton House

The beautifully manicured grounds of Riccarton House at 16 Kahu Road, is the place to be on Wednesday 17th March from 11am- 3.00pm. Older adults are getting together for a FREE day of fun, entertainment and a variety of have-a-go leisure opportunities. This event has something for everyone!
The event will start at 11am with a range of different “have a go” activities. You can try cake decorating or have a turn at spinning and weaving. For those who want something more energetic there will be demonstrations and have-a-go opportunities with gentle exercise, Pilates and Tai Chi. You can even throw a petanque ball or two, or surf the web with SeniorNet!
A variety of stalls will be demonstrating activities or displaying arts and crafts for sale and the Riccarton Community Library will be also be giving away free book parcels.
From 1pm – 3pm it’s time to sit back in the relaxed atmosphere and be entertained by performances from the Christchurch Scottish Country Dancers, the School of Contemporary Bellydance and the Oakenspirit cultural group. Of course the 17th March is St Patrick’s Day so the Kay Hallissey Irish Dancers will perform a few gigs to get us in the St Patrick’s Day spirit. The grande finale for the afternoon is a magical performance from the 50s up Brass Band, this band has over 40 members with an average age of 68 years. They will play a variety of light music including some singalong items.
Short tours of the restored heritage Riccarton House with be available at 11.30am and 1.30pm for a gold coin donation. A variety of refreshments will be available or you are welcome to bring your own lunch or afternoon tea and a picnic chair from home.
The event is funded by the Riccarton/Wigram Community Board and Christchurch City Council Community and Recreation.
