Future of Burnside wasteland to be considered by community

1 July 2004

The development of a large area of Burnside wasteland will be up for discussion at a community workshop called by the Christchurch City Council at Kendal School on Thursday 8 July, 5.30pm - 6.45pm.

The Council now owns the wasteland at the end of Abros Pl, connecting to Nepal Reserve, and is seeking ideas on its development to best meet the needs of the local community.

At next week’s meeting, residents will be invited to share their suggestions and help prepare a design plan for the future of the reserve.

Recreation planner, Kelly Hansen said, “being such a big area, this site offers many exciting possibilities for a range of individual, community, and environmental benefits.  A mixture of people live in the area and there are a large number of families in this part of the city.”

“New facilities will be developed in Abros Pl over several years and there will be further opportunities for community involvement as development progresses,” she said.
