Gold Crate Reward for Real Recyclers

28 January 2004

Real recyclers could receive an extra crate, a special golden crate.

“We have 2400 golden crates to award throughout Christchurch and Waimakariri, during February, March and April, to recyclers at home who regularly do the right thing,” says Richard Lloyd, Chair of the Real Recycling Promotion Team. “Not only do they contribute toward a healthy environment and a sustainable future, they also make the work of our Onyx collectors, who have to physically handle items, safer.”

Each week winners will be selected from the list of households nominated and a golden crate delivered to them.

“In addition to thanking those people who make the effort, we hope the appearance of golden crates along the kerbsides will raise awareness about recycling – which items are recyclable and their acceptable state,” says Lloyd.

For households to be eligible their street number must be on their crate (this helps collectors return the empty crate to the right address).

People who know a household or someone worthy of a gold crate can nominate them by phoning 03 941 8830 or emailing on waste@ccc.govt.nz or filling in a nomination form at any Council Service Centre in Christchurch City or Waimakariri District.

Nominations close on Friday 23 April 2004.
