Some Christchurch speed limits set to change

Christchurch motorists should notice some new speed limit signs posted on a number of roads around the city from this week. 
The speed limit changes include:

• some roads in Burwood/Marshlands that will reduce from 100 km/h to 80 km/h;
• new 40 km/h speed zones in the Charleston cluster of streets, and on The Esplanade and portions of the adjoining streets in Sumner; and,
• raising the speed limit on the four-lane sections of Aldwins, Buckleys and Pages roads (from Ferry Road through to Kearneys Road) from 50 km/h to 60 km/h.

“These changes are necessary to ensure our roading system is coping with changes in traffic volumes and that the speed limits we have in place are still appropriate and safe for the road” says Christchurch City Council Traffic Engineer Malcolm Taylor.

Installation of new 80 km/h speed limit signs on some roads in the Burwood/Marshlands area is set to begin on Wednesday this week. Roads affected include Lower Styx Road, Kianga Road, Spencerville Road and Belfast Road.

Fulton Hogan has been contracted to install the new signs. All work around the city should be completed by mid-March.
