Popular Bromley Carnival set for new location

Community running races, wearable arts and plenty of fun family activities are among the attractions planned for the fifth annual Bromley Carnival on Saturday 21 February.

This year’s carnival will be held at Bromley Park, Buckleys Rd rather than the Bromley Community Centre grounds to cater for the increasing number of people and activities at the event.

Organised by Bromley Community Residents and core funded by the Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board, the Carnival is now a well established feature of the district’s calendar.

Community Board members will be involved in a variety of ways including chairman Bob Todd who will open it, Councillor David Cox who will be a Master of Ceremonies, Board member Linda Rutland who will help judge the wearable arts competition and other Board members who will help out at the sausage sizzle.

The Bromley Bulletin Trophy for the quickest men and women runners in Bromley is sure to be a highlight of the day.  “Everybody will line up and run about 100 metres in a mad dash for the finish line,” Carnival co-ordinator Karen East said.

A new “decorate a t-shirt” competition for the funniest, most original and most colourful t-shirts is sure to appeal to young carnival goers. 

Like last year, children will be able to operate their own blanket site. For $2, they will be able to sell sweets, toys, games and other children’s items from a blanket size space.  The stallholders will receive a pack of balloons, lollies and other treats to help make their day enjoyable.

Free balloons and lollipops, Harley rides, a wide variety of stalls, entertainment by Natural Magic, line dancing, a bouncy castle and music by the ‘Strawberry Strum Band’ will also be part of the day.

The Bromley Carnival at Bromley Park, Buckleys Rd will run from 1pm until 5pm.  If wet, it will be postponed until Saturday 28 February.
