Students needed for Christchurch-Kurashiki exchange

29 April 2004

Year ten students of Japanese are being invited to put their names forward for an experience of a lifetime – Christchurch’s fourteenth sister-city student exchange to Kurashiki, Japan.

Nominations for the 14 places on the exchange close on Friday 14 May 2004.

To be eligible to take part in this year’s trip(18 September - 3 October), students must be able to raise $2,500 towards their costs. This year, however, a scholarship is being offered by the Christchurch-Kurashiki Sister City Committee to cover the full costs of travel ( spending money excluded) for one student who may be unable to raise the funds.

In Kurashiki, students will be home-hosted and attend school on five days, with their host brother or sister. The remaining time will be spent experiencing the sights, sounds and food of Kurashiki and its surrounding area. Students will also spend a day in Hiroshima and on Miyajima Island.

Anyone interested in being considered for this exchange should contact their school’s Head of Department for Japanese Studies or Barbara August, Christchurch City Council International Relations co-ordinator on 941 8251 or email barbara.august@ccc.govt.nz for details and an application form
