Main power transmission line out of service
23 April 2004
One of the main power transmission lines into Christchurch will be out of service this weekend for maintenance.
City Council senior engineering officer Graeme Black says although it is unlikely, this may restrict the power that can be delivered to the city, which could impact on the amount of electricity available.
“To help the power supply during the weekend, the City Council has agreed to run all available standby generators and diesel powered pumps at its water and wastewater pumping stations, to lower the load on the system and improve the security of the supply while this work is carried out.”
Mr Black says that some residents living near these stations will notice that the generators and pumps are operating.
“The operating hours will be restricted to 8am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.”
He says that many of these stations operate diesel-powered pumps at peak load times in the winter, and this is a similar situation.
Supply of water and wastewater services will not be affected.
