New seaside extravaganza coming soon
18 September 2003
An exciting, free, family event called Whopper Chopper will be held on
Saturday, 8 November from noon at New Brighton beach.
Launched in Wellington five years ago as a celebration of our beautiful
coastlines and creative talents, the event is coming south to Christchurch.
Seen by the City Council’s Burwood/Pegasus Community Board as a great
opportunity, “the Whopper Chopper Seaside Extravaganza is an exciting
boost to New Brighton and will provide for a carnival experience,” says
Don Rowlands, Community Board Chairman.
Themed as an International Pirates Convention, the event includes classic
Kiwi school sports day games with entertainment from homegrown bands and
DJs as well as outdoor film screenings in association with the NZ film Archive
and NZ film Commission.
The Whopper Chopper KIDZONE will offer face painting, kite, circus, and
painting workshops.
Proudly supported by the Burwood/Pegasus Community Board, Whopper Chopper
is set to create a carnival atmosphere and activities aimed at entertaining
the whole family.
