Plans already in place to remediate the Tamaki Maori Village site
24 March 2003
Christchurch City Council and Tamaki Tours are committed to ensuring the
site in Heathcote Valley Park will be safe for the activities proposed as
part of the Tamaki Maori Village. That objective will be met by remediation
works and measures proposed to protect people and buildings.
“
Any use of a former landfill can, of course, raise issues of public
health, and Crown Public Health and ECan are correct to investigate
and be satisfied that the issues raised are adequately addressed,” says
Council Senior Engineer Roy Eastman . “We are confident that the concerns
raised by Crown Public Health and Ecan will be allayed with further
clarification of the proposal.”
Christchurch City Council staff will
be meeting with Crown Public Health and ECan in the coming fortnight
to discuss the issues raised
in their submissions.
