Linwood community celebrates its many cultures

People from around the globe will be represented at the fifth annual Multicultural
Festival in the Linwood Community Arts Centre carpark and Doris Lusk Reserve
on Saturday 29 March.
Core funded by the Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board, the day will
include performances, food and information stalls involving people from
a wide range of cultures, according to organiser Hotorene Hepi of the Linwood
Community Arts Centre.
“
Somalian, Macedonian and Czechoslovakian food will be there to
try, along with performances by belly dancers, Latin dance groups and a
Tongan cultural group,” Hotorene says. Well-known entertainer, Janice
Grey will compere the events, which will run from 11am until 3pm
Inside the Linwood Community Arts Centre will be a multicultural
art exhibition by local school children. This will be open to the public
from 26 March during gallery hours.
If wet the Festival will be held on Saturday 5 April. The Multicultural
Festival is supported by Woolston Club, Plains 96.9FM and Richmond Working
Men ’s Club.
