Traffic lights at Fendalton/Glandovey intersection working from Friday
30 July 2003
Traffic lights at the intersection of Fendalton and Glandovey roads will
start operating on Friday 1 August, weather permitting.
The pedestrian crossing next to Holly Lea on Fendalton Road will
also operate from Friday.
Christchurch City Council project manager Kevin Burgess says
the traffic lights will cater for the increased traffic movement
at the intersection,
in particular the right turn from Glandovey Road into Fendalton
Road. The signals next to Holly Lea will assist elderly pedestrians
to cross Fendalton
Road safely.
The upgrade of Fendalton Road is not far from completion. Minor
work remains to finish off sections of the central median
and small areas of footpath on the northern side of the road are
still to be finished and
sealed.
Landscape planting along the road is due for completion by
October.
The upgrade of Fendalton Road started in September last
year and has been constructed in stages. The road works
have involved changing Fendalton
Road between the railway and Clyde Road from two lanes
to
four. An upgrade of street lighting and underground services
has also been done along this
length of the road.
The new road includes a landscaped median, cycle lanes,
and visitor parking among the existing trees where
possible. The project also includes providing off-street parking
to serve the needs
of visitors
to St Barnabas
Church.
Locally based contractor Works Infrastructure is doing
the work.
