Don’t Miss This Bus!
1 July 2003
With its bright and ‘eye-catching’ new paint job, Christchurch
City Libraries Mobile Library will be a hard bus to miss.
Patient customers
have waited just over 6 weeks, while the new look and improved
features have been made to the Mobile Library. A special ceremony
to welcome customers back will be held at the Middleton Road
stop, by Middleton Park in Riccarton, at 9.20am, this Wednesday.
The
mobile library service is 33 years old, put in place in June 1970
to tend to the needs of local communities before libraries in Spreydon,
New
Brighton, Papanui and Shirley were built. Today the Mobile Library
carries more than 4,000 items, including books, magazines, CDs,
children’s
videos and talking books. It offers resources to a wide range of
customers from babies to senior citizens.
The Mobile Library provides
30.5 hours of service across the city each week, operating on six
days, Monday to Saturday with one evening service.
Stops range from semi-rural such as Templeton, Kainga and Brooklands,
to city stops like Merivale, South Brighton, Aranui, Parklands
and Avonhead.

“
Our timetable hasn’t changed and we hope all our existing customers
plus some new ones will take advantage of the improved features
such as easier access,” says Erina Parks, Outreach and Special Needs
