The Teddy Bears Picnic All Go in Rain or Shine

9 January 2003

SummerTimes™ Teddy Bears Picnic
Sunday January 12th, 12pm to 4pm, North Hagley Park, FREE.

With Pioneer Leisure Centre tee-d up as a wet weather venue, this years highly anticipated SummerTimes Teddy Bears Picnic will go ahead in rain or shine, and will delight families with a huge range of fun things to do and see this Sunday 12th from 12noon to 4pm in North Hagley Park.

“We’ve been rained-out for the past two years”, says PR and Promotions Coordinator of Events for Christchurch City Council Leisure, Beatrice Cheer.

“But the alternative venue of Pioneer Stadium worked well for us in 2001, so we’re hoping that because we’ve gone to the effort of arranging it again this time, that Murphy’s Law will prevail, and the North Hagley Park event will go ahead!”

And the Park venue certainly promises to be chock-full of activities to interest all ages, but especially the littlies and their bears.

Stage entertainment includes The Court Jesters, with appearances by Momma Bear, Malcolm the Bear, Lieutenant Fumble and Captain Cosmic. Adrian Kirk presents his special brand of silliness, and Natural Magic bring interactivity into their performance, so the kids can get involved in music and dancing.

The Mobile Children’s Library will be there for some quieter entertainment, and children can try their hand at Crayola Pavement Art too.

Teddy Harbour on Victoria Lake comes alive with paddleboats, and The Navy will have a static display of life rafts and training vessels.

Food vendors and rides will be onsite, and a market stall and static displays will provide interesting things to look at and purchase.

Popular local storyteller Liz Weir will read to children, and for something more active, the Impact Trampoline team will be demonstrating their skills. The Great Bear Hunt offers the chance to win great prizes.

All this and the fabulous Canterbury Rams onsite to shoot hoops!

Convenient onsite parking is available from 11am to 5pm in North Hagley Park, entrance off the Westbound Lane of Harper Avenue.

In wet weather, the event will take place at Pioneer Stadium, Lyttelton Street in Spreydon.

This event is proudly produced by Christchurch City Council Leisure, and is supported by Tip Top and LiteFM.
