25 February 2003
SummerTimes
FREE Friday Lunchtime Concert, Cathedral Square, Friday 28th February,
12.15pm to 1.45pm.
The SummerTimes Lunchtime Concert Series ends this Friday
28th February with a guaranteed high energy performance by popular
city band Puree.
Kelvin Mallard is band leader and guitarist. "Were aiming
to liven up The Square, he says, " And were going
to keep it upbeat with crowd favourites and a few numbers to sing
along to".
Puree specialize in a blend of top 40 hits from the last three
decades, along with funk, disco and pop classics. "We try to
appeal to the masses and play music that people like to hear"
says Kelvin.
Shane Bolingford plays percussion, and the trademark voice behind
the band belongs to Dominique Mallard.
Married to Kelvin for seven years, Dominiques voice was discovered
on their wedding day when the couple put together a band to entertain
their guests and Dominique got up on stage. The rest, as they say,
is history, and the band have played a huge number of local gigs
for the last five years, with a regular spot at The Bedrock Bar
in the Startimes Backpackers in Cathedral Square.
Dominiques voice is powerful and also flexible enough to
take on a huge variety of styles. Last year she presented a showstopping
performance on televisions Showstoppers where she joined
the final 12 winning contestants.
With recent shows at the Canterbury Wine and Food Festival, and
another planned at the Waipara Wine and Food Festival in March,
the Puree stay busy bringing their powerhouse performance to the
people of Canterbury.
