Award Winning Quartet to Play at Rick Armstrong Motors Classical Sparks

25 February 2003

SummerTimes™ Rick Armstrong Motors Classical Sparks, Saturday 1st March 2003, 5.45pm to 9pm, North Hagley Park. FREE. Raindate, Sunday 2nd March.

On Saturday March 1st, The Ben Morrison Quartet will perform pre show classic and jazz entertainment in North Hagley Park for Rick Armstrong Motors Classical Sparks from 5.45 until 6.15pm. "We’re absolutely thrilled to have the Morrison Quartet as part of Classical Sparks this year" says Beatrice Cheer, PR and Promotions Coordinator for Christchurch City Council Events Team. "It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognize and showcase the immense talent this group of four young men possess and I am sure that the estimated crowd of 100,00 are in for a musical feast".

Hailing from Burnside High School, Ben and talented fellow musicians Takumi Motokawa on piano, Michael Bull on bass and Sebastian Warren on drums form the Morrison quartet, who have been playing together for over two years. As winners of the Schools Chamber Music competition in 2002, they have performed before audiences at Parliament and at many private shows around the city.

Having played the violin since he was three, Ben is high demand as a performer and his credits include playing at an America’s Cup ball and as a support act for Cliff Richard at the Mission Bay Winery. He also featured at Christmas in the Park and has performed with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and Hayley Westenra. In 2002, Ben received a Totara Award from the combined Rotary Clubs of Christchurch for his contributions to performing Arts.

In the 20th year of the SummerTimes™ festival, Rick Armstrong Motors Classical Sparks is produced by Christchurch City Council Leisure, and proudly supported by sponsor Rick Armstrong Motors (also celebrating a birthday) accompanied by Peugeot.

" We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Rick Armstrong Motors 10th year in business, thank the Christchurch public for their support and give something back to the community," says Hamish Lamont, Marketing Manager for the Rick Armstrong Motor Group.
