2003 Civic Awards presented next Tuesday
4 December 2003
Civic Awards will be presented to 25 community minded individuals and organisations
by Christchurch Mayor Garry Moore next Tuesday 9 December.
“
These awards recognise people from a wide cross section of the
community, who are working to make our city a better place to live,” Christchurch
City Council International Relations co-ordinator, Dave Adamson said.
“
This year’s recipients cover everything from fostering hundreds of
children to making and distributing thousands of Christmas cards, from being
involved in mountain safety to working with refugees. In other words, a
typically mixed and varied range of activity, which typifies what the Christchurch
Civic Awards are all about,” he said.
Civic Awards are presented annually by the Council in recognition
of voluntary service that benefits the city of Christchurch
and its people. This service can be in a number of areas including
recreation;
youth activities;
social welfare; educational services; cultural, religious and
community affairs.
Nominations were called for in August and referred to the Community
Board in whose area, the ‘good works” had been done. Recommendations
on the nominations were then made by the Boards to Council.
Next Tuesday, Mr Moore will present each of the Award recipients with a
framed certificate and boxed medallion.
