Libraries encourage customers to look on the bright side
4 August 2003
Customers looking to brighten their winter will be pleasantly surprised
if they visit their local library during Library Week 11-17 August.
In line with the theme “Libraries add colour – He Kohinga Marama”,
libraries throughout the city have adopted colour themes to display their
wares. For example, visit Hornby Library and you will “Rendezvous
with Red,” or call into Bishopdale Library for a “Panorama of
Purple ”.
“
When we talk about libraries adding colour, we’re referring to the
way they add interest and variety to people’s lives. We provide a
huge range of resources and services for Christchurch people, great community
meeting places, and we also work in so many ways with other organisations
to add to people’s lives,” says Nicki Moen, Acting Christchurch
City Libraries Manager.
Another aspect of Library Week will be New Zealand-wide library
readings of Patricia Grace’s The Kuia and the Spider/ Te Kuia me te
Pungawerewere.
More than 100 schools and libraries will read the story simultaneously
at 10.30am on Tuesday 12 August. “
We welcome new members during the week too. Many Christchurch residents
don ’t realise that membership is free,” says Nicki Moen.
