Online Gateway to Christchurch and Canterbury Launched Localeye, a one-start shop to all things online in or about Christchurch and Canterbury is being launched today by Christchurch City Libraries and Alchemy Group. This online gateway has been designed for use by local people, visitors, potential visitors and people wanting information or services in the region. It covers a wide spectrum of local web life, arranged in easy to use categories such as City Life, Work & Play, and Visiting Us. Unlike many other regional gateways or portals around the world, localeye includes a Canterbury search engine, meaning that it only produces results that are connected in some way with Christchurch and Canterbury. This eliminates the work of scrolling through hundreds of irrelevant search results. Another feature is localeyes newsletter subscription service. Ten newsletters, each covering one of the major sections of localeye will be produced and sent out electronically every few weeks. To date, more than 3,200 web resources have been included, with coverage extending from Ashburton District through to Hurunui District. It is planned to extend coverage to the remaining Canterbury areas in the future. Funded by The Community Trust and the Christchurch City Council, this venture is supported by Canterbury Development Corporation, Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce, Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing, Christchurch City Council, Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology, Council of Social Services, Environment Canterbury, Q, and the University of Canterbury.
