Korean Extravaganza in Cathedral Square

FREE Friday Lunchtime Concert, Friday 4 October, 12.15 to 1.15pm, Cathedral Square.

This Friday, a 40-strong cultural group from Christchurch’s Korean sister-city Songpa-Gu will present a performance featuring music, dance and drumming.

The group performed in Christchurch two years ago, and this time they will perform free of charge in Cathedral Square, in the build up to their feature show at the James Hay Theatre on Saturday 5 October.

Honorary Consul for Korea Graeme Plummer says “ It’s a unique opportunity for Christchurch people to get a glimpse into the richness of 5000 years of Korean tradition and culture, which is reflected in the colour, grace and movement of the performances.”

Songpa-Gu and Christchurch have been sister cities since 1995, and Songpa-Gu is located in the south-east of Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. Songpa-Gu is Christchurch’s newest sister city relationship, and is supported by the fast growing local Korean community.

Christchurch Songpa-Gu Sisiter City Committee arranged the visit, with generous support from the Christchurch Casino, Christchurch International Airport, Gary Cochrane Hyundai and New Avonhead Travel.
