Te Ropu Haka o Te Kotahitanga perform in Cathedral Square FREE Friday Lunchtime Concert, Cathedral Square, 12.15pm to 1.45pm. Part of Showtime Canterbury A dominant force in Kapa Haka over the last few years, this talented group will present a very special cultural performance. They celebrated their 30th year as a group in 2001, are the longest standing Kapa Haka group in the South Island, and have performed at National competitions and International forums over many years. The group have been a major influence in the development of Kapa Haka in Waitaha, with members now spread around the city, assisting with various Kaupapa Maori initiatives in Primary and Secondary schools. Members range in ages from tiny babies in their junior section, to over 90 year-olds in the senior section. Te Ropu o Te Kotahitanga are active in supporting their community and have a strong belief in the political and social function of Kapa Haka in New Zealand society.
