Garden Awards For Residents
The gardening efforts of more than 90 residents from Fendalton and Waimairi will be acknowledged at the annual Fendalton/Waimari Community Pride Garden Awards next week.
The awards, a joint venture between the Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board and the Christchurch Beautifying Society, acknowledge the work of residential gardeners who, by their efforts, have contributed to Christchurch’s garden city image. They also encourage all local residents to beautify their streets and garden frontages.
The Christchurch Beautifying Society is selecting the winning gardens as part of its own street and garden awards.
The award ceremony is being held over two days at 4pm on Tuesday 26 March and Wednesday 27 March at the Fendalton Service Centre boardroom, corner Jeffreys and Clyde Roads.
All six of the city’s community boards take part in the garden awards. First held in 1991, the awards were initially called the Community Pride Garden Competition. The criteria subsequently changed to better meet the original objective of encouraging civic-minded pride.
