Cameras Used To Catch Car Thieves In City Parks

Installation of video cameras has proven worthwhile at Bottle Lake Park, with thieves being caught stealing from cars and prosecuted.

Coastal Area Head Ranger, Rodney Chambers, said that park rangers were pleased with results from video footage taken in the area. “Video surveillance has been used at Bottle Lake as problem-solving tool that has proven effective against car burglary. This is a growing issue in parks, especially where there are lots of parked cars.”

Rangers also have to deal with vandalism, fires and abandoned cars. “We have regular places where cars are left, stolen and often stripped,” says Chambers.

“This video technology can be applied to other parks in the city, to help make them safer places for people to enjoy.”
