All Christchurch City Council sports grounds closed today The Christchurch City Council has closed all its sports grounds today. Council parks maintenance support officer Ian Jackson says sports fields are sodden after days of intermittent showers. "If it carries on raining, we’ll probably cancel again tomorrow. We’ll get the notice out before 11am tomorrow," he says. The Council looks after about 270 individual sports fields on about 85 parks.
