Christchurch City Council Media Release 16 January 2002

SummerTimes™: Summer Theatre The Complete History Of New Zealand - abridged.

January 25 to February 10th, Daffodil Lawns Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Rolleston Avenue, 7.30pm, matinee at 2pm on weekends. No show Mondays. FREE

Everything from Waitangi to Winebox, everyone from Maui to Muldoon – no one is spared in this mad dash through local history!

The Court Jesters present The Complete History Of New Zealand – Abridged as this years SummerTimes™ Summer Theatre performance, and they guarantee laughs a-plenty. In the style of the Complete Works of Shakespeare – abridged, Craig Cooper, Greg Cooper and Carl Nixon have written their own version of the last 1,000 years in Godzone. Performing the show will be Court Jester members Jared Corbin, Simon Young, and Andy Spargo.

Proudly flaunting the warning that the play contains ‘politically incorrect, historically inaccurate and comically inspired material’ The Jesters will present the formation of New Zealand – via shaving foam, The Gold Rush – as a Kung Fu movie, and the world wars as The All Blacks would have seen them.

“Kiwi’s, facts, facets, and fallacy’s – what more could you want?” says the show’s Director Mark Hadlow, ‘ I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work in this production again and give it it’s true exposure to Christchurch audiences, it really is a funny piece”.

Summer Theatre continues to be a hugely popular part of the SummerTimes™ festival programme, and the Daffodil Lawns make the perfect stage setting for an after-work picnic on the banks of the Avon river. This year audience members can pre-book a gourmet picnic hamper with La Toscana.
