Retro! Returns to Celebrate the Music of the 1950’s!

A SummerTimes™ event, Sunday February 3rd, 2pm to 5pm, North Hagley Park. FREE.

Drag out the bobby socks and Brylcream – Retro! is back, and this time we’re celebrating music of the 1950’s!

The relaxed venue of North Hagley Park will come alive in an afternoon full of music as Retro! presents the very best of a decade where rock’n’ roll and ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ ruled! DJ Kevin Black (‘Blackie’) with Solid Gold FM will be MC, guaranteeing a fun show for the whole family.

Dateless and Desperate kick off the day with a Grease tribute, including the well known and loved hits Summer Loving, Hopelessly Devoted, and The One That I Want.

Well known throughout the Christchurch club, pub and corporate event scene, Dateless and Desperate are presenting 12 numbers and will be dressed for the part. Joanne Fuller plays Sandy, Steve Hyde plays Danny, and the backup team of Campbell Patterson and Dave Josland are joined by special guest Debbie Mahia.

Those swinging local favourites The Vague As Brothers will bring their unique style of wit, charm and bad-taste suits to the stage. Presenting the cheesiest hits from a decade of decadence, Les and Dick. E will keep the crowd entertained before the headline act of Pat Kearns As Elvis In Concert appears.

Pat has an enormous following throughout Christchurch, and is a seasoned perfomer as well as a big Elvis fan.

“ I find the show never stops being popular – with all ages” he says. “ Elvis was that kind of guy – a great voice and a big personality, and the music is so familiar to everyone.”

Retro! celebrates the 1950’s this year, and thousands of people are expected in Hagley Park – many in costume competing for prizes, and others just there to enjoy the sounds and the laid-back atmosphere. $3 car parking is available in Hagley Park from 1pm to 6pm, recycling is encouraged and some food vendors will be onsite.

This event is proudly presented by Christchurch City Council Leisure and is supported by Solid Gold FM.
