World expert on climate change coming to Christchurch
The World Bank’s senior spokesperson on global warming and climate change, Dr Robert Watson, will speak at a forum of invited Canterbury business leaders and policy makers on Monday 18 February at 4pm in the Christchurch City Council Civic Offices. Dr Watson is the Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the World Meteorological Organisation, United Nations Environment Program. He is visiting New Zealand as a guest of the government from 17 –22 February. The focus of his visit will be to give international comparisons, updating audiences on what other countries are doing in regards to climate change. He will emphasise the imperative of New Zealand maximising its international competitiveness and opportunities from signing the Kyoto Protocol (KP) and the risks New Zealand faces if it doesn’t take up the challenges of KP.
