New Media Liaison Coordinator

The Christchurch City Council’s Communication Team is pleased to announce that Bryn Somerville, a former senior reporter and sub-editor on The Press and The Citizen newspapers in Christchurch, has taken up his post as media liaison coordinator at the council. He replaces David Gee, who has retired.

Somerville, 40, is the Communications Team’s primary point of contact for reporters, camera crews and producers.

Somerville has worked as a broadcast and print journalist in New Zealand and internationally, including time with Reuters in New York and Tokyo as Television News Editor and as a reporter and producer with Television New Zealand. In New Zealand he has also worked for the New Zealand Press Association and for the Otago Daily Times and Southland Times.

“I’m looking forward to catching up with my colleagues in the industry over the next month or so,” he says.
