Sharon Williams, the Christchurch City Council Legal Art Coordinator, has been working with members of the Belfast Community Pool Committee and local youth to produce a mural on the outside of the pool’s north-facing concrete wall.

The artists involved include two young people from the Belfast and Papanui areas. The design, which has been discussed with the pool committee, has an underwater theme and includes characters of local significance.

• Reduce the incidence of graffiti vandalism.
• Encourage young artists to lift their artistic standards under close supervision.
• Increase community respect for legal graffiti arts.
• Provide a positive environment in which young artists can redirect their energies and express their art form legally.
• Promote community safety by providing a well run programme.
