ASB BANK Starry Nights To Shine Again

SummerTimes® ASB BANK STARRY NIGHTS New York New York! Saturday February 23rd, 8pm to 10pm, North Hagley Park.

Christchurch City Council Leisure are delighted to confirm ASB BANK as the major sponsor of the feature SummerTimes® event ASB BANK Starry Nights for another three years. This year’s tribute to musical theatre takes place on February 23rd in North Hagley Park from 8pm to 10pm.

“ASB BANK is very focused on providing support to those areas in which we operate.” Says Ross Nunn, ASB BANK Regional Manager South Island, “ We are therefore delighted to be able to assist the Christchurch City Council in bringing ASB BANK Starry Nights to the Canterbury region.”

ASB BANK Starry Nights debuted last year to hugely excited audiences. The show was described as ‘stunning entertainment’ and thousands of families from all over the city enjoyed the very best of Broadway and The Westend presented outdoors and under the stars, free of charge.

This year’s show pays tribute to New York, a city with a vibrant musical theatre tradition, and where the world’s most popular musicals play to full houses year after year. The razzle dazzle returns with a two hour show ‘New York New York’ featuring fully costumed performances of hits from Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Grease, and the songs of ABBA.

“It seems fitting to honour the theatrical and musical heartbeat of a city which has endured so much in recent times” say Christchurch City Council Events Team Manager Michelle Beckett, ‘This dramatic show will astound all ages and if the overwhelmingly positive response from audiences last year is anything to go by, we know to expect even larger crowds this year!’.

The talent of Showbiz Christchurch and The Christchurch Symphony along with the specially formed Children’s Gospel Choir promise a performance of international quality. Guest performer Tim Beveridge, recent winner of the prestigious international competition BBC Voice of Musical Theatre in 2000 will perform several songs including the Sinatra favourites Luck Be A Lady Tonight and New York, New York. Tim appears regularly with Dame Malvina Major, and recently co-produced Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Baritones.

Audience members are encouraged to bring a picnic and rug or low chairs. Some food vendors will be onsite, recycling bins will be present, and convenient $3 car parking in Hagley Park is available from 6pm to 11pm.

This event is proudly presented by Christchurch City Council Leisure, and is supported by ASB BANK.
