Central City weekend public alcohol ban for Christchurch

Christchurch
City Council today brought in a ban on the public carrying or drinking
of alcohol on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, from 7pm to 7am
the following morning. The first day of the ban will be Boxing Day, 26
December 2002.

An education
campaign about the ban will run on city radio stations from tomorrow and
signage and posters will be put up around the central city over the next
week.
The ban applies
on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 7pm to 7am in all public
areas east of Hagley Park and within Bealey, Fitzgerald and Moorhouse
avenues.
